This morning I was sitting at a stop light on a street with 4 lanes, one way. A car made a right out of a parking lot and was facing us. Then the light turned green. The car facing us realized their predicament but before the car could respond, the other cars next to me began to advance.
I wonder how often we do that in our lives? Someone around us begins to realize they are going the wrong direction, but before they can fully course correct, we blow right by them. From our perspective at the stoplight, sitting 4 across, it was obvious that the other car was wrong. And it didn’t take long for the other car to see, “wow I am wrong”. But it did take time for course correction.
As a person who craves efficiency and loves when things could have been done yesterday or two weeks ago, I have to be careful not to blow past people who are in the midst of a course correction. The car reversed back into the parking lot from which they came, and I am sure they reoriented themselves, made a left, and continued about their day.
However in my personal life, I need to take the time to assess, to pray, “so now what?” What is my role in this course correction process that I see taking place. Perhaps I am a spectator. Maybe I am to come along side. Perhaps I am meant to carry on. I just want to be sensitive enough to discern, so now what?
